This past Friday, my mom and I ventured out into the city for some meetings with my new college advisor to register for classes, discuss transferring, and get a feel for the program. I love how hands on and personal my new college is, which is making my decision to transfer so much more meaningful.
After spending some time at the College of Health Professions at my school, we were starved and knew exactly where we wanted to go. We headed to the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids, which is what looks like a big old warehouse outside of the downtown, but is full of restaurants, markets, and a sunny rooftop garden. After quickly walking around and taking in what all was being sold, we decided to hit up the fresh smoothie and juice bar first. I love being able to see them actually prepare the drinks in front of you, and see what is all getting mixed together. I ordered the “Face Lift” which is full of ingredients like cucumbers, apples, and additional yummy fruit. It was so delicious! After walking a little longer, we decided to go to a sit down restaurant (which I can’t remember the name of, sadly), instead of walking around from stand to stand for lunch. I had their “social salad”, which is where you are able to design your own salad. Mine included kale, mixed greens, cucumber, bacon, avocado, celery, cauliflower, peppers, sunflower seeds, almonds, and cranberries. I really enjoyed it, and it was so nice to sit down and just chit chat with my mom. She literally is such a saint. I was pretty full after lunch, but we couldn’t leave without a cookie from the cutest bakery there. The chocolate chip cookie we split was still warm and gooey and was melt-in-your-mouth good.
Above, you can see the view from the center of the second story of the building, which looks down into shops and kitchens. When on the second floor, we were hoping to go into the sunny gardens, but were unable to as a wedding was being set up. The couple-to-be had such a great day for their wedding, because the glass roof showed a clear blue sky and let in so much natural light into the gardens. We then went onto the terrace and enjoyed some of the views the city had to offer. Sadly, our trip had to be cut short as we both had to get home and get many different things done.
My outfit of the day, could not have complimented my busy schedule more. My bag from G.H. Bass was deep enough for me to carry around my laptop and multiple folders for my meeting with my advisor, and the navy body of the bag matched the denim on denim outfit I wore. When I first was deciding what to wear, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the denim on denim, as I wasn’t trying to channel 2001 Britney and Justin at the AMA’s. However, because of the two different tones, and the fact that I’m not drowning in denim, I really liked how this outfit turned out. The ensemble looks clean and put together, but paired with the boat shoes, is also really comfortable for walking around. Outfits like this are great for busy days, and add a touch of professionalism. I knew that my orientation was going to be fairly casual, but still wanted to look presentable, which is why a style like this works so well.
Hopefully I’ve given you some ideas on what to wear the next time you’re out doing some running around or need a fun casual outfit with a sprinkle of structured professionalism added to it. Wishing you a happy beginning of June☀️
