Over a month without posting. The blogging gods are definitely looking down and shaking their heads at me right now. But in all seriousness, I feel super bad about not posting anything for a while. Starting at a new college has been crazy and I’ve been joining clubs, doing clinical observations at my job shadow, working, and studying my butt off. (Dean’s list here I come!!) I’ve also been doing a lot of reflection and finding out who I really am. Just like the seasons and leaves are changing, so am I.
So where better to start this life update than with school. So, as many of you know I commute to college and I actually really like it. Driving in the morning as the sun is rising is super peaceful and it’s nice to have some time to think without too many distractions. For those of you who don’t know, I’m planning on applying to my school’s cardiovascular sonography program this February, with hopes in specializing in pediatrics. Hopefully, when I’m done with school I’ll officially hold a bachelors degree and my official title will be “Abigail Schuster RDCS, AE PE.” I’m taking a full course load including sociology, statistics, anatomy and physiology, and philosophy. It’s crazy, but I’ll pat myself on the back and say that I’m adjusting to everything really well.
At Grand Valley, I also joined their Love Your Melon Campus Crew!! If you aren’t already aware, LYM is an amazing company started by college students that produces beanies, hats, apparel, etc. and donates part of their earnings to pediatric cancer research. Being apart of this club means that I get to fundraise for, and meet kids battling cancer. We give them beanies to keep them warm in the hospital and all of the beanies have the LYM logo on them. I’m super excited to be apart of this group, and I can’t wait to share even more about it with you in the future! (*Hint hint there will be a post in the next couple of months*)
In addition to school, I also have a job shadow at the same hospital I work at. It’s super cool being able to see what I want to be doing in the future up close and personal. I’m hoping to get some more clinical hours at other hospitals as well, just for a change in location. Speaking of the hospital, work is going pretty well. The hours can sometimes feel a bit long (especially when I come from school), but I’m so appreciative that I get to work in a hospital, interact with patients and staff, and learn so much about the behind the scenes aspect of things.
I’m really starting to plan out my future and I love where it’s going. I’ve been doing a lot of reflection, like I said before and it’s so funny how over a course of a couple months someone can change so much. I feel more confident, happy, independent, and healthy, but I also can see how my style is changing and how I’m making more time for the things that I feel are really more important in life. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to get all “holier than thou” on everyone, but I definitely recommend taking some time each week to just think about how your life is going and what’s really important to you. Every little decision you make shapes you into the person you’re going to become in the future.
On a completely different note, I’m so excited for fall. We went from swimming at the beach last week, to me feeling cold in jeans and a light jacket yesterday. I don’t even mind. I love the lake, but I also love autumn. Quite truthfully, I really like all of the seasons. Perks of growing up in the midwest I guess? Anyways, I stopped at a cute market stand on my way home from class yesterday and picked up three baby pumpkins to start decorating my room with. I’m so excited for all of our fall and Halloween decorations to be up!! If you are interested in a fall decor post, let me know and maybe I will share some of my favorite fall tips and tricks. I’m also getting super excited for apple picking, West Michigan’s AMAZING fall foliage (the colors are insane!!), and apple cider.
This fall is going to be fantastic, and I’m so excited to be back in the blogging game. My editorial calendar is full to the brim and you can expect lots of new content and maybe even a giveaway in the next couple of months!
